Here are some pics from the start of our Grand Canyon day. We stayed in Williams, AZ at the Holiday Inn for the two nights. Williams is about a 50 min drive to the entrance of the park. We were able to spend the whole day there. There is a scenic train ride you can take, but we decided to drive. It was easier with the baby and we could come and go as we please instead of having to leave when the train departs.
This part of the canyon is about 8 miles to the other rim and about 1 mile vertical height. The size of it is absolutely mindblowing...larger than anything you can really imagine. The pictures below are from the edge of the canyon just before we started the hike.
You can actually see the curvature of the Earth in this picture...that's how big the canyon is.
This last picture is from the welcome sign before you actually go into the Grand Canyon National Park. The temperature change from Phoenix was almost 30 degrees cooler, but as you hike down into the canyon the temp gets hotter and hotter.
